I’ve been uber conservative about booking shows since my surgery — Surgery! Surgery! All I talk about is surgery! — but at some point you just have to get back on the horse. I’ve started tentatively reaching out to producers, and am excited to finally have things to populate a calendar. (This doesn’t mean I’ve added a calendar to the site yet, sadly.)
Months ago, I saw the performer callout for the Pinups for Pitbulls fundraiser in San Francisco. Much to my dismay, my gut told me I just wouldn’t be ready to perform. And yet, I am the proud owner of a gorgeous little pitbull called Cooper (please to see his adorable face above) and each and every year I stumble upon Pinups for Pitbulls and want to be involved in some way. If I weren’t so lame, I would pay more attention to the submission dates for their yearly calendar, which I’ve missed three years in a row.
This week it became obvious that I will soon be able to balance and bend over in a cute-but-mostly-sensible shoe, so I reached out to them and asked if I might be of some assistance at the show. Huzzah! I’m now the proud stage kitten for the Valentine’s Day “Pitty Party” at Lucky 13 on February 12. I am not ashamed to say that I’ve watched a Pit Boss episode or 20, and am stupidly excited to meet Shorty and Hercules.
Also coming up is the one year anniversary of sASSy’s Seaside Burlesque at the Winter’s Tavern in Pacifica on April 1. I remember the first show like it was yesterday, performers descending en masse upon confused bar patrons, all of us walking in the door in full show face/hair and sporting our best nautical pinup gear. Those poor guys didn’t have a chance. It was a great show that night, and it’s been a great show ever since. I’m so proud of sASSy for making it to a year!
